Red Clay Theater

Downtown Duluth

In its new home at Red Clay Theater, Eddie’s Shootout is the world’s visual, social, and experiential portal for authentic music discovery. This expanded venue offers even more ways to have a conceptual (and spiritual) core for the OMP experience. At the same time, an expansive footprint with practice rooms, production facilities, a planned music conservatory, and a restaurant, makes the Red Clay the “home” for OMP. From the discovery of local talent to the enjoyment of local fare, Red Clay is a place with heart and soul — an epicenter of musical moments, intimate shows, and unlimited reach. A real-world center of the action.

Eddie Owen

Presents

Eddie lives for the magical spaces where music can be heard and great talent discovered. Over the years he’s discovered some greats: The Indigo Girls, John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Sugarland, India Arie, and Civil Wars. Owen’s ear for talent and his dedication to creating a sacred space for performers made Eddie’s Attic a place of national renown. Today, he calls The Red Clay Theater home.

In 1994, Eddie started Songwriter’s Open Mic Monday, a weekly contest where artists could perform two songs
for one judge: Owen. Winners were invited back for the
bi-annual shootout, a single elimination tournament for
$1,000 toward the recording of a new album. The impressive list of winners, including John Mayer and Jennifer Nettles, would go on to headline and pack the Attic as weekend headliners for years to come.

Eddie’s knack for uncovering talent has been honed by witnessing thousands of performances and looking for the one essential ingredient — “They all worked their asses off, and they’re all talented, but if you don’t have the songs, you can’t get there.”

It is this experience of discovery, inspired by the greater local clubs, that is the basis of the OMP music platform.
